Terms of Service

The rules we live by, and the ones we ask of you.

Last updated: 2026-04-22

Welcome to dar.vin

These Terms of Service outline the rules and regulations for using the dar.vin platform. By registering an account or using our infrastructure to shorten links, you accept these terms in full. Please read them carefully to understand your rights and obligations while operating on our platform.

Acceptable Use Policy

The primary mission of dar.vin is to support the spread of scientific literacy and facilitate the sharing of reliable information. We expect every user to respect this foundation. You are entirely responsible for the content of the URLs you shorten using our service.

You are strictly prohibited from creating links that point to:

  • Malware, ransomware, or any software designed to harm systems.
  • Phishing pages or fraudulent credential-harvesting sites.
  • Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).
  • Content that is illegal under Turkish law, particularly under Law No. 5651.
  • Material that infringes upon the intellectual property or trademarks of others.
  • Content that our operators, in good faith, believe violates the spirit of scientific literacy the service exists to support.

Violating the spirit of scientific literacy includes actively spreading dangerous medical misinformation, coordinated pseudoscience campaigns, or intentional anti-science propaganda. We enforce this policy strictly and reserve the right to disable individual shortcodes or terminate entire accounts without prior notice when we detect violations.

Account Rules and Security

When you create an account on dar.vin, you must provide a valid email address and a username. You may also choose to authenticate using the Evrim Ağacı OAuth integration. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and for all activity that occurs under your account.

If you suspect any unauthorised use of your account or any other breach of security, notify us immediately at ops@dar.vin. We cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to protect your login credentials.

API Usage and Rate Limits

We provide a REST API (v3) for developers to integrate dar.vin into their own workflows. To ensure stability for everyone, we enforce rate limits on the API.

  • Anonymous users: 30 requests per hour per IP address.
  • Authenticated users: 300 requests per hour per user account.

These limits apply to the link-creation (shorten) endpoints. Exceeding the limit returns a standard HTTP 429 response. Repeatedly attempting to bypass the limit through IP rotation or multiple automated accounts violates these terms and will result in a permanent API ban.

Our Responsibilities and Uptime

We provide the dar.vin service on an "as is" and "as available" basis. While we strive for engineering excellence, we do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free at all times.

Our Service Level Objective (SLO) for uptime is 99.5 percent calculated on a monthly basis, excluding planned maintenance. When planned maintenance is required, we will announce it at least 48 hours in advance on our status channels or by email. We assume no liability for lost revenue, lost data, or secondary damages resulting from downtime or data loss.

Your Responsibilities

You retain full ownership of the data you submit to dar.vin, including your custom slugs and any linkinbio content you create. It is your responsibility to ensure that your use of the service complies with the laws of your local jurisdiction, in addition to our Acceptable Use Policy. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operators of dar.vin against any claims, damages, or legal fees arising from your direct violation of these terms.

Termination of Service

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the dar.vin platform at our sole discretion, at any time, for any reason, without notice or liability. Most terminations are the direct result of violating the Acceptable Use Policy. Upon termination, your right to use the API and dashboard ceases immediately and all shortcodes associated with your account may be deactivated.

Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

The legal framework governing your use of dar.vin depends on your geographic location. For users residing within the Republic of Turkey, these terms are governed entirely by Turkish law, and any disputes will be resolved exclusively in the courts of Istanbul.

For users outside Turkey, the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) governs all data-protection questions and privacy rights. For any other contractual disputes or legal claims regarding the service itself, Turkish law applies and the exclusive venue for resolution remains the courts of Istanbul.

Instagram Integration

If you connect an Instagram account to your darvin bio, the following additional rules apply on top of the rest of these Terms.

Acceptable use

You confirm that you own (or are authorised to display) the Instagram posts you choose to feature on your darvin bio. By connecting Instagram you grant darvin a limited, revocable, non-exclusive license to fetch the metadata of those posts (caption, media URL, permalink, timestamp) and to render them on your public bio for as long as the connection is active. This license terminates automatically when you disconnect Instagram or close your darvin account.

No spam or phishing

You may not use the Instagram publishing flow to mass-post identical or near-identical content, to drive traffic to deceptive or harmful destinations, or to evade Meta's own platform rules. We may suspend or remove the Instagram integration on your account, without notice, if Meta flags the connected account or if we detect abuse of the publish flow.

Disconnection

You can revoke darvin's access to your Instagram account at any time by disconnecting it from the linkinbio editor, by submitting a request through /account/data-deletion, or directly from Meta's app settings under Accounts Center. Disconnection stops further metadata fetches and removes the Instagram block from your public bio within a short propagation window.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms periodically to reflect changes in our platform, legal requirements, or operational realities. If we make material changes we will provide 14 days' notice by sending an email to the address associated with your account. Continued use of the service after those 14 days constitutes your acceptance of the new terms.
